Rocklin Passes Rule Punishing Parents Who Host Alcohol-Fueled Parties For Teens
ROCKLIN (CBS13) — The Rocklin City Council passed an ordinance that would punish parents who host alcohol-fueled parties for teens on Tuesday.
The rule was inspired in part by the death of Robert Vickney Jr. In the summer of 2013, the father was stabbed and killed after attacking his teenage son's friend in an alcohol-fueled altercation. The killing was ruled self-defense.
Rocklin Police said they have responded to more than 2,000 calls for noise complaints or party calls in the last three years, the majority of which involved minors in the home drinking alcohol.
The ordinance will allow officers to write a $1,000 ticket to any adults who are allowing drinking at their homes. Officers can also write the citation to adults who "reasonably should have known" the drinking was happening. A community service option will also be available for those unwilling to pay.
