Rocklin Murder May Be A Case Of Self-Defense
ROCKLIN (CBS13) — A 19-year-old initially accused of Rocklin's first murder since 2007 is out of police custody, and the district attorney's office says it could be a case of self defense.
Zachary Kachmar was arrested in the early-morning hours on Sunday, accused of stabbing 51-year-old Robert Vickney at Vickney's Swan Court home.
Investigators say Kachmar was at the home during a party, since he was friends with Vickney's son.
Officers say there was some sort of a physical altercation between Vickney and Kachmar that ended with Kachmar stabbing Vickney.
The murder charge has been dropped for the time being, much to the relief of his mother.
"My son is not a fighter, is not an aggressive boy," said Natalie Kachmar. "He is a peacemaker and this was an accident. That was not intentional."
He's not under bond or bail and is due back in court on July 29 to discuss the case and if charges will be filed.
