Rock Fire Burns 2,242 Acres, Containment Shoots Up To 50%
STANISLAUS COUNTY (CBS13) – The latest on the Rock Fire burning in Stanislaus County:
1:15 p.m.
The Rock Fire has more than doubled in size, but firefighters are getting a handle on the flames.
As of early Wednesday afternoon, Cal Fire reports that the wildfire in rural Stanislaus County has grown to 2,242 acres. However, officials say this acreage change is more due to a more accurate mapping of the fire area.
Containment has shot up to 50 percent, Cal Fire says.
Del Puerto Canyon Road is still closed.
6:40 a.m.
A fast-moving wildfire burning in rural Stanislaus County has exploded from just 30 acres to 1,000 acres overnight.
The wildfire - which is being called the Rock Fire - is burning on Del Puerto Canyon Road, about 16 miles due west of Patterson. That road, along with Highway 130 in the area, remains closed Wednesday morning.
While the fire grew overnight, so did containment. As of 6 a.m., Cal fire says it is 15 percent contained.
The fire started around 9 p.m. Tuesday.
Cal Fire says some ranches in the area may be threatened, but so far there are no evacuations for this wildfire.
