Robbers Break Into Elderly Stockton Couple's Home, Hold Great-Grandmother At Gunpoint
STOCKTON (CBS13) - Thieves broke into the home of an elderly Stockton couple and held them at gunpoint as they ransacked the house, stealing some irreplaceable items.
Robbers used rocks from the victims' back yard to shatter a back window.
"My mom was trembling because this is the first time it happened to her," the couple's daughter told CBS13 on Monday. "She was just praying 'Please help us.'"
It's clear the 96-year-old woman and her husband couldn't fight back. That's why relatives can't comprehend why armed robbers held the frail great-grandmother at gunpoint. Her husband was taking a nap in another room during Sunday's broad daylight attack.
"It's a good thing they didn't hit them," the daughter said. "they just pointed the gun. There were two of them; (one) was pointing the gun to her and the other one was taking what they want."
Shattered glass marks the spot where the pair of masked thieves got inside and then ransacked the place.
"It's all a mess," the daughter said. "Oh my god, I cried so much when I saw it."
In addition to cash and prescription pills, "thieves made off with family heirlooms, pricey gold jewelry that can't be replaced.
Stil, the family is thankful the elderly couple survived the nightmare.
"It's a good thing they didn't hurt them, didn't kill them," the daughter said.
Burglars have hit other homes on the block, and this latest attack now has neighbors planning a neighborhood watch group.
"Invaded, it's not right, especially to old people," Dora Acosta said.
Because the attackers were masked, police don't have a lot to go on. They're hopeful someone saw something and will step forward.
