Roads Into Yosemite To Remain Closed

YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK, Calif. (AP) -- Officials at Yosemite National Park say all roads into the park will remain closed Tuesday morning after a major storm dumped snow, caused mudslides and downed trees and power lines.

Park spokeswoman Victoria Mates says crews worked until nightfall Monday on repairing downed power lines and clearing fallen trees on the roads leading into the park.

After the work resumes Tuesday, park officials will assess the conditions on Highways 41, 120 and 140 throughout the day before deciding when they'll reopen the roadways.

Mates says about 150 people remain in the park after what she termed a voluntary visitor departure.

Officials say the weekend storm dropped more than 3.5 feet of snow throughout the park over a 24-hour period, including in Yosemite Valley, Wawona, and Crane Flat.
