Residents In Rocklin Are Uncomfortable With Sexual Assaults In Park
ROCKLIN (CBS13) -- The City of Rocklin is on high alert, after two separate sexual assaults in the last 48 hours.
In both cases, a man reportedly inappropriately grabbed two young girls from behind and then fled the area.
Tim Allin coaches baseball at Twin Oaks Park in Rocklin, and says the assaults are alarming. "I'm uncomfortable to say the least", Allin says. The park is usually crowded through the evening, and people continue to stay out as late as eleven PM, according to Allin.
Rocklin Police say the first assault happened Thursday night around eight O'clock near Twin Oaks Park -- a young girl reported she was touched inappropriately from behind while she was walking with her friend. A second incident was reported 24 hours later, when another young girl experienced the very same thing. She was walking along a bike trail off Park Drive and Farrier Road. The assaults are extremely out of the ordinary, according to Rocklin's police chief.
Chief Ron Lawrence says Rocklin is a safe place, and the police department takes crime very seriously. "When these things happen you get the police chief out here on a Saturday making sure we are keeping the community safe". Additional officers are being deployed to patrol the area around the park, says Chief Lawrence. The incidents appear to be connected, and based on how similar the two reports are, whoever is responsible may be familiar with the area.
It's a wake-up call for the community, says Allin. The City of Rocklin is known to be quiet and peaceful, but just like any other city, Rocklin can sometimes have its own problems. "We don't live in a bubble, nobody is immune".
Rocklin Police have arrested Angelo Rodriguez for the March 25th case of Sexual Battery that occured near Park and Farrier in Rocklin. Police are determining whether if he is linked to the March 24th sexual battery case as well.
