On the heels of Frank Gore leaving for the Philadelphia Eagles, and rumors of Colin Kaepernick being on the trade block, nothing could prepare Niner fans for the Monday morning bombshell:
Patrick Willis will retire.
Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk.com set the stage with a tweet alluding to a surprise announcement from San Francisco, pertaining to a key player that would not return for 2015.
Then Rand Getlin, of Yahoo Sports broke the news: "The 49ers are bracing themselves for the loss of LB Patrick Willis. Expecting him to retire."
