Report Of Armed Gunman Prompts Lockdown Of 5 Schools In Davis
DAVIS (CBS13) - Reports of an armed gunman prompted the lockdown of five Davis schools on Thursday morning, but he was carrying a BB gun and never walked onto school property, police said.
At about 10:25 a.m., the Davis Police Department received a call from administrators at Davis Senior High School reporting a male subject possibly armed with a handgun north of the library parking lot. As a precaution, the following schools were placed on lockdown: Davis Senior High School, North Davis Elementary School, St. James Elementary School, King High School and Davis School of Independent Study.
There is no information to indicate that the subject was ever on any of the campuses in the immediate area, police said. The lockdown lasted about 35 minutes.
Officers responded and detained a person matching the description provided by the school. Through the course of the investigation, it was determined that the subject had been in possession of a BB gun that he discarded prior to police contacting him. The BB gun was located in the vicinity of where the male subject was detained, police said
Because he was never on any of the campuses and never threatened or brandished the BB gun, no criminal charges are being pursued at this time, police said. Police said he is in his late teens and not enrolled at any of the schools.
