Report: Giants, OF Gregor Blanco Agree On 2-Year Deal
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Outfielder Gregor Blanco and the San Francisco Giants reached agreement on a $7.5 million, two-year contract to avoid arbitration, a person with knowledge of the deal said Sunday.
Blanco will earn $3.6 million in salary this season and $3.9 million for 2016. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the team hadn't made a formal announcement.
The 31-year-old Blanco could share time in left field after the defending World Series champions reached a $4.7 million, one-year contract with Nori Aoki on Friday.
Blanco has played at least 141 games in each of his three seasons with San Francisco. He batted .260 with five home runs, six triples, 18 doubles and 38 RBIs in 146 games last season. He has played a key role during each of the franchise's last two title runs.
He made $2,525,000 last year. Blanco led off Game 2 of the World Series at Kansas City last fall with a home run, and the Giants went on to win their third championship in five years in seven games against the Royals.
Also Friday, right-hander Yusmeiro Petit agreed to a $2.1 million, one-year contract that avoided salary arbitration. Petit earned $845,000 last season.
The Giants have three remaining arbitration-eligible players: first baseman Brandon Belt, shortstop Brandon Crawford and new third baseman Casey McGehee, acquired from the Marlins to replace departed Pablo Sandoval in the infield.
