Report: Deputy D.A. Had .12 BAC In DUI Arrest
PLACERVILLE, Calif. (CBS13) -- The deputy district attorney who was arrested at her office for driving under the influence failed a sobriety test and showed a blood-alcohol content level that was well above the legal limit, according to the arrest report.
The police report detailing the arrest of El Dorado County deputy district attorney Gloria Mas reveals that a CHP officer who was working in the District Attorney's office called police to report that "Mas displayed signs and symptoms of intoxication both before and after she was observed driving into the parking lot."
Mas told police she drank two vodka tonics at her home for lunch before driving to work, and the report states she had a strong odor of alcohol and was slurring her speech.
DUI attorney Erik Schlueter, who used to work with Mas in the D.A.'s office years ago, said the report shows that Mas was "sequestered" in District Attorney Vern Pierson's personal office while the investigation was taking place.
Two preliminary alcohol screenings showed a blood-alcohol content (BAC) level of 0.12, but the report provided to CBS13 redacts the results of the official breathalyzer test.
The arresting officer appeared to recognize the unusual nature of arresting a prosecutor in her office and tried to handle her detainment discreetly, according to the report.
"Due to the sensitivity and nature of the circumstances, I advised Ms. Mas that I would allow her to walk out of the office to my patrol vehicle where she would be handcuffed," the report states.
The El Dorado County District Attorney's office has passed the case on to the Attorney General's office to avoid any conflicts of interest. The Attorney General's office said Thursday they have accepted and are reviewing the allegations.
No charges have yet been filed against Mas.
