Reno man arrested on suspicion of starting wildfire in Tahoe National Forest
SIERRA COUNTY – A man was arrested on suspicion of starting a wildfire in the Tahoe National Forest early Sunday morning, authorities said.
Around 3 a.m., deputies with the Sierra County Sheriff's Office and fire crews from Cal Fire and the U.S. Forest Service responded to a fire burning north of the Stampede Reservoir.
The fire grew to about two acres in the Merrill Peak area before the forward progress was stopped. Authorities said the fire was burning in thick brush and timber.
When deputies arrived, they were requested by fire personnel to a location where a person of interest was located near the fire.
That man, later identified as 58-year-old Glenn Scribner of Reno, Nevada, was showing signs that he was under the influence of a controlled substance, including hallucinations, deputies said.
Scribner was eventually arrested for arson, deputies said.
He was taken to a hospital in Truckee and later booked into jail.
