Regulators Order PG&E To Reduce Pressure In Pipelines
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- California regulators have ordered Pacific Gas & Electric Co. to reduce pressure on four gas pipelines running through sensitive areas.
The California Public Utilities Commission says it ordered PG&E on Wednesday to modify pipelines located in the Central Valley, Santa Clara County and the Santa Cruz County coast.
PG&E said Wednesday evening that it had already begun to comply with the order to reduce pressure in the lines to 20 percent below the maximum allowed by law.
Regulators have issued a series of safety directives to PG&E in the months following a September pipeline explosion in San Bruno that killed eight people.
The CPUC says its ongoing investigation of the San Bruno blast revealed that PG&E allowed pressure in several other pipelines to exceed the maximum legal amount.
