Rash Of Robberies Hits Region In Single Day
WEST SACRAMENTO (CBS13) -- At least two of the four robberies that took place across three separate cities and two different counties in a single day may be connected, authorities said.
The crime wave began at the Umpqua Bank in Woodland at about 10:30 a.m. when two tall, skinny robbers wearing masks and brandishing black handguns entered the building and stolen an undisclosed amount of money from an ATM.
A getaway driver sped the suspects away from the scene and ditched the vehicle before driving away in a gray van, according to the Woodland Police Department.
About a half hour later, a suspect entered the Cash Advance in West Sacramento with a silver handgun and demanded cash from a frightened employee.
The same suspect is believed to be responsible for the armed robbery at a Check-N-Go on the Alta Arden Expressway within an hour of the previous incident. Surveillance video shows a clear view of the suspect, whom authorities describe as a black man, about 5'6"-5'8" tall with short black hair and a moustache.
The Sacramento County bomb squad scrambled Wednesday afternoon after a U.S. Bank in Citrus Heights reported a suspicious package inside their building.
Bank employees said a white, heavyset man walked into the bank, dropped a backpack, and left. The man later called the bank and told them he would detonate a bomb inside the backpack unless an employee brought cash out to him.
Authorities discovered that the package was filled with Styrofoam and towels.
Federal and local investigators are looking for information on the suspects in all of the incidents, but no arrests have been made.
