Rare Rainy Monday In June Welcome To Some
WEST SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - It was a weather oddity on the first Monday of June, as several areas around the region saw a decent amount of rain and it started snowing in the Sierra in the afternoon.
There's a winter weather watch in effect for the western slope of the Sierra until about 5 a.m. on Tuesday, and snow levels could drop down to 5,000 feet overnight.
CBS13's Ben Sosenko was tracking the rain on Monday and found some mixed opinions on the weather.
There were blue skies at 5 p.m, but it was raining a good part of the day. Some people welcomed the change... Others were not so happy about it.
"It's a change," one person said. "It's something different."
Call it a spring surprise after a sizzling Saturday and Sunday turned into a wet and muggy Monday.
"I love the rain today very much," one woman said.
We've been forecasting the change so some were prepared. Others used whatever they could to stay dry, even a shopping bag.
And some were just born for this type weather
"It's a good break," rain fan Joan Barrow said. "I'm not a hot weather fan so this is fine. I can get more done."
Monday's weather was real bad timing for Hall of Fame football player Fred Biletnikoff's annual children's charity golf tournament in Lincoln.
"More frustrating than anything," tournament organizer Curtis Landa said. Especially with the weekend we had with the nice weather, tomorrow and the rest of the week is going to be nice."
Despite the chilly rain at Catta Verdera, there were all smiles on the course as golfers teed off for a good cause.
"My game's terrible," participant Steve Peace said. "It doesn't matter. It probably helps."
The rain isn't expected to last, with Tuesday's forecast calling for sunny skies but a high only in the low 70s. It will gradually heat back up into the mid-80s the rest of the week.
