Person's Body Found In Burning Car In Rancho Cordova
RANCHO CORDOVA (CBS13) — Authorities are investigating after a person's body was found inside a burning car in Rancho Cordova Wednesday morning.
The discovery was made along the 2000 block of El Manto Drive.
According to the Rancho Cordova Police Department, deputies responded just after 5 a.m. to help with a vehicle fire incident. While firefighters were putting out the flames, a body was found inside.
No information about the person - including their age, gender or ethnicity - was available.
It's unclear where in the car the body was found. Homicide detectives and Crime Scene Investigators are expected to be on the scene until 6 p.m. Wednesday.
Scott Yurtin said he was riding on his bicycle early Wednesday morning when he came across the blocked entrance to the park. He said he's never seen a police presence like that near the river.
"If maybe a fight every now and then on like on the Fourth of July or something like that. But other than that it's safe," Yurtin said. "It's always safe down at the river. Except for now."
He told CBS13 that he'll have a more watchful eye when it comes to the trails after this situation.
"If anything I'll be looking for more to see if anything is going on. So I mean this is just so … it is just super odd," Yurtin said.
