Rainy, Snowy Weekend In Store Across Northern California
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - It's going to be a cool and wet fall weekend across Northern California.
The rain started falling overnight into Friday morning and scattered showers with mainly light rainfall totals are expected throughout the day. Snow in the Sierra will mostly be above 7,000 feet. Temperatures will be in the low 60s.
The rain is expected to continue overnight, possibly becoming heavy in spots. Lows will be in the low 50s.
Saturday may see some lulls in the action at times, but scattered rain showers will continue – so keep those umbrellas handy. Highs again will be in the low 60s.
Another round of rain and snow arrives Saturday night, with colder air from the north, dropping the snow level down to 5,000 feet.
Sunday will bring more rain for the valley and foothills, with heavier snow above 5,000.
The snow total from this storm should be 2-3 feet about 7,000 feet and 5-10 inches at 5,000 feet. The valley should see 1-1.5 inches of ran and the foothills 2-3 inches.
It's the start of a five-day streak of stormy weather.
At Talini's Nursery, they were clipping flowers before the wind does.
"Give them a nice haircut and by spring time, ta-da!" Mark Kelley said.
From the bright blooms, to the turning of trees there's no shortage of color in East Sac. Leaf blowers have been swept away with all this work.
"We get just tons of leaves and gutters get all plugged up," resident Virginia Nissen said.
"Every gardener, everybody gets crazy here," Alex Rodriguez said as he blew leaves Friday. "Big trees, big yards, lot of leaves."
While people like alex and the mailmen deliver their duties outdoors, many people were cozying up indoors.
At Burr's Fountain, they're famous for their ice cream but the soup and chili were big hits Friday.
"Oh lots, about half the people in here," Jim Burr said of customers ordering the hot stuff.
The wet weather will continue into Thanksgiving week. There's a chance of rain every day next week up to Thanksgiving Day.
