Rain, Snow Storms Now Expected To Arrive Thursday

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — A series of storms might not hit the Sacramento region until Thursday but they're expect to provide rain through the weekend after more than a month of dry weather.

According to CBS13 meteorologist Laura Skirde, Wednesday night will see increasing clouds, but only a slim chance of showers north of Interstate 80. Thursday could still be dry for morning commuters, with rain moving into the valley by lunchtime.

The National Weather Service in Sacramento has issued a winter storm warning above 5,000 feet for heavy snow, which is in effect from 10 a.m. Thursday to 4 a.m. Friday. A winter storm watch above 6,500 feet has also been issued. This winter storm is in effect from Friday afternoon through Saturday afternoon.

Snow accumulations Thursday are expected at 6 to 12 inches above 5,000 feet and up to 2 feet of snow is possible above 7,000 feet. Another round of heavy snow is possible Friday afternoon through Saturday afternoon.

On Friday rain and snow activity is expected to pick back up again during the day. Snow levels may actually rise to above pass level, 7,000 feet, but it will still be great snow for the ski resorts.

Saturday could see a lull but still some showers in the area, and then Sunday should bring another round of valley rain and Sierra snow.

The outlook is wet for the 49ers' NFC Championship Game against the New York Giants in San Francisco on Sunday afternoon.
