Storm Moving Across Northern California

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — The first of what is expected to be a weekend of wet weather is moving into Northern California.

Heavy rain started falling in the San Francisco Bay area, just in time for the Friday evening commute.

The National Weather Service says the rain is expected to be heavy through Friday night, with showers in the forecast for Saturday and Sunday.

Because of low temperatures associated with the storm, forecasters say snow could fall on some Bay Area mountains.

In the Sierra, a winter storm warning is in effect, with two to three feet of snow expected to fall in the higher elevations.

Meanwhile, in Southern California, forecasters say rain should start falling around midnight and continue through Saturday,

Snow is predicted for Southern California mountains above 4,000 feet, with even the Santa Monica Mountains expected to get a light dusting.
