Questions Remain For Families Of Potential 'Speed Freak' Victims After FBI Meeting

SALIDA (CBS13) - Families of suspected "Speed Freak Killers'" victims meet with the FBI in their search for answers.

"It's going to have to get done because I'm not going to give it up, and you know it's going to have to get done," said Marie Gillit, the daughter of a victim.

It's the first face-to-face meeting they've had as they look for closure.

"I'm not going to stop until I find my daughter. I'm not going to stop," said Sue Kizer, Gayle Mark's mother.

She is determined to find her daughter's remains.

"They're going to have to find my father, because I'm not going to let it go," said Gillit, Phil Martin's daughter.

She is a daughter on a mission to find her missing father.

Marks, 18, disappeared in 1988, and 47-year-old Martin vanished in 1993. Both are believed to be victims of Speed Freak Killers Wesley Shermatine and Loren Herzog. Their remains have never been recovered despite two separate excavations of wells near Linden.

"They said they wanted to let us know what they are doing," said Kizer.

"I don't think either one of us had all of our questions answered," said Gillit.

The two-hour meeting took place at the FBI office in Salida with agents telling family members there are no current plans to resume the search although they are open to digging in the future if they uncover any new leads.

"They were very, very, very, very nice," said Kizer.

Both appreciated the meeting, but still had many unanswered questions.

"I would like to know exactly what they're doing when they're doing it, how they are going to do it and I don't feel that was expressed. It was just vague," said Gillit.

Two families torn apart by tragedy are now brought together for the very same reason. They're hopeful they'll finally discover where their loved ones' remains have been all these years.

"Go get them and bring them home," said Gillit.

Investigators uncovered the remains of five victims and an unborn baby in previous searches.
