Puppy Shot In The Neck With Pellet
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - A puppy was shot in the neck in its own front yard and neighbors say this isn't the first time an animal has been hit on their street.
The puppy is alive, but will likely be disabled. Folks in a South Sacramento neighborhood are keeping a close eye on their pets.
"I heard it, and then I heard the dog yelp out," said Gloria Penrice, the dog's owner.
But never would Gloria imagine she had just heard her dog Honey getting shot.
"She just stopped in her tracks, she couldn't move," said Gloria.
Someone used a pellet gun to shoot the little chihuahua right in Gloria's front yard. That pellet lodged right under the little pooch's neck.
"Her hole around that area was just bloody; bloody," said Gloria.
But surprisingly, it's not the first time someone has found an animal shot near Beth Street in South Sacramento.
"I think it's been going on for a while now," said Mai Thao. "It was kind of like a bb gun shot."
Mai lives just down the road. She recently found a bird grounded near her driveway, the apparent victim of a shooting. It had a pellet lodged in its wing.
"I have little kids and they play out in the front yard. And if someone can harm animals like that, you never know," said Mai.
Gloria says she's also found birds in the neighborhood shot, but she's in awe possibly someone would take aim at her puppy.
"You would never think that they would do something like this," said Mai.
Honey meanwhile is alive and recovering after seeing a vet. She'll likely be disabled from now on -- unable to put weight on one front paw. It's a permanent reminder of a cruel and senseless attack.
Honey's owner isn't out for sweet revenge, just justice.
"I hope they can catch them whoever they are, you know," said Gloria.
Police are investigating the shootings.
