Public Memorial Service For Galt Police Officer To Be Held Monday

GALT (CBS13) - The Galt police officer who was killed in the line of duty earlier this week will be laid to rest on Monday.

Services for Officer Kevin Tonn, who was 35, will be held at the Adventure Christian Church, 6401 Stanford Ranch Road in Roseville. The public is invited and there will be a large showing of support from the public service community. Traffic in the area will be heavily impacted.

The service will also be streamed live online.

After the service, a procession will leave the church to East Lawn Memorial Park, 5757 Greenback Lane in Sacramento. A reception will be held at the Citrus Heights Community Center, 6300 Fountain Square Drive.

Tonn was investigating a burglary on Tuesday when he approached a man for questioning and was fatally shot. The gunman, 30-year-old Humphrey Kenneth Gascon, then fatally shot himself in the head.

Tonn served in the military, fire services and law enforcement. He was with the Galt Police Department for three and a half years and was the department's K9 officer with partner Yaro.

Tonn graduated from Roseville High School in 1995 and entered the military at age 19. He spent about eight years in upstate New York before returning to Northern California and graduating from the Sacramento County Sheriff's Academy.

Tonn served on the Galt force with his cousin Jarrett Tonn. Their fathers, identical twins, also have law enforcement experience.
