Proposed Elk Grove Costco Brings Excitement, Traffic Worries To Already Busy Road
ELK GROVE (CBS13) — A proposed Costco is bringing excitement to Elk Grove, but it's also causing concerns about traffic congestion along a heavily traveled thoroughfare.
Elk Grove's booming population and growing business propositions has made Elk Grove Boulevard one of the most heavily traveled roads in the city.
A tranquil, open field next to the congestion on the corner of Bruceville Road and Elk Grove Boulevard could add to the growth and traffic headaches. The future site of the proposed Ridge Shopping Center has Costco as a featured tenant.
"I think it'll be a benefit to the town. Costco is great," said Elk Grove resident Monik Vega.
City officials are asking for the public's input on not just the Costco and its 30-pump gas station, but also 223,000 square feet of commercial buildings on 24 acres that's home to numerous storefronts.
With the growth and expansion comes challenges, as some are concerned more visitors means a possible uptick in crime and other problems. But some believe the good outweighs the potential bad.
"This town has been growing expediently and there's a lot of things that have come into the town and I think it's making us better as a town. It's made us larger and grown us. We're actually on the map now," Vega said.
