Prince George Pushes Yuba City Man To No. 96 In Line For British Throne
YUBA CITY (CBS13) — When the royal baby came, he wowed the crowd with his arrival, and bumped a Yuba City man down one notch on his road to be king.
This is the story of William, next in line to take a major jump in British royalty.
Not that William. This William—William Capell of Yuba City.
Follow the crooked street sign, look past the rusty Mickey Mouse mailbox, walk straight toward the car with the royal license plate, and inside this modest dwelling, and you'll find him.
With a hearty laugh and a friendly face, he shows us his official papers with royal pride. William Capell will become the next Earl of Essex, even though he likes to say:
"I'm just a regular guy."
A regular guy in line for the throne, he's No. 96.
"I knew that it was in the family. I just didn't know I was that close."
As the future earl shows us images from a recent London jaunt, William tells us earls used to be granted a seat in the House of Lords.
Now?
"Earl of Essex is a title only, nothing more."
I wanted the opinion of this royal maybe on the royal baby. Does he like the name George?
"Yeah, I think it's a great name. There's a lot of history behind it."
As comfy as Bill is with his Yuba City lifestyle, becoming the Earl of Essex may just persuade Bill to cross the pond with a slight adjustment.
"If I move there, I wouldn't live in London. I would live somewhere out."
For now, he'll remain on his throne—I mean beaten-up recliner—inside his humble abode.
Not exactly the House of Lords, but it is the house where a proper introduction is required.
Not to sound morbid, but he is 96 deaths away from being king, so it probably won't happen.
