Pressure Mounts On UC Davis Chancellor Linda Katehi To Resign
DAVIS (CBS13) — UC Davis' acting chancellor made his first public appearance since taking the reins after Linda Katehi was put on administrative leave by the university system.
Ralph Hexter called the move an unexpected development. He's taking the helm as Katehi faces allegations she violated University of California policies that include compensation for some of her immediate family members employed by the campus and improper use of student funds.
Hexter was hired by Katehi in 2011, and says it was inspiring to work with her.
"We developed such momentum here in realizing the tremendous vision for UC Davis the chancellor inspired in us," he said.
He says he was disappointed and sorry the chancellor had to step down.
"I think that the chancellor is herself, at this point, clear that only an investigation will -- she expects it will -- clear her name," he said
Some students on campus today, who supported the occupation movement calling for Katehi to be fired, hope more changes are in store. They hope Katehi is not reinstated.
On Thursday, Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom became the latest and highest profile politician to call for her resignation.
A union representing 22,000 UC employees called for a top-to-bottom investigation of all UC Davis administrators.
