Power Abruptly Shut Off At Stockton Mobile-Home Park In Afternoon Heat
STOCKTON (CBS13) — Stockton mobile home park residents spent much of the day with no power in the midday heat after they say their power was shut off because the owner didn't pay his bill.
A resident at El Rey Mobile Home Park called CBS13 saying he was furious his power was shut off by PG&E on a day when temperatures reached into the 90s.
"No PG&E whatsoever. The whole PG&E's cut off," Michael Peterson said.
The lights are out, the fan and swamp cooler are off, and his refrigerator is dark.
"All of our food's gonna go bad," he said.
He isn't the only one reaching a boiling point.
"This is bullcrap; really really bullcrap," Michelle Hernandez said.
Power was abruptly shut off to more than 30 people at the Stockton trailer park. Neighbors pay for power as part of their rent and say it's on the park owner to pay PG&E. They claim he didn't.
"He said it's not his problem with the electricity being shut off," Amy Miracle said.
As things were really heating up, a PG&E truck pulled up. The driver wasn't too talkative, but he said he was removing locks from the main breaker. When he left, the power was still off. He said the owner would have to flip the master switch himself.
"That's customer's equipment not ours; I cannot turn it on," he said.
We went to a building where neighbors say the owner works to get him to turn the power back on. We tried calling three times, but nobody answered.
Someone at the mobile-home park was tired of waiting and turned on the power.
PG&E says it has worked out an agreement with the owner so that power could be restored, calling it an unfortunate situation.
The company says it's launched a program to avoid this kind of problem that puts mobile-home park residents on an individual meter instead of a master meter system.
