Police: Woman Called 911 Thousands Of Times

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) -- Police say a woman singlehandedly clogged up a busy emergency dispatch system with thousands of phone calls about nonsensical problems.

The Sacramento Police Department arrested 44-year-old Jennifer Arguelles for unlawful use of 911 after placing a huge number of calls -- more than 150 on Tuesday alone -- to the California Highway Patrol.

"You cannot print from the printer icon in the e-mail, thank you," she told dispatchers in one call.

"You're welcome," the dispatcher responded.

Arguelles sounded polite and apologetic but insistent during the calls, which apparently came so often that dispatchers knew her by name. She allegedly called 911 dispatchers 2,147 during the month of June -- accounting for one out of every 30 phone calls into the Sacramento center during that time period -- and hasn't slowed down.

"July 4th weekend, actually, she called 180 times," said CHP Officer Adrian Quintero. "Our dispatchers would actually have to call the number back and verify there was no emergency taking place."

A warrant was issued for Arguelles' arrest and she was eventually tracked down through her cell phone. If convicted, she could face up to a year in prison.
