Police Shoot Modesto Man Armed With Knife
MODESTO, Calif. (AP) -- A Modesto man police say was armed with a knife is hospitalized in critical condition after being shot by an officer during an disturbance at a home.
Modesto police spokesman Scott Nelson says 41-year-old Brian Reed was shot during a confrontation with officers who were called out to a family disturbance around 5:30 p.m. Thursday.
Nelson says Reed was shot after refusing multiple times to cooperate with officers.
The officers have been placed on administrative leave, a standard procedure in officer-involved shootings.
Police say Reed was armed with a pocket knife.
The Modesto Bee reports that the shooting was the department's eighth officer-involved shooting in just over a year.
