Police Searching For Gunmen Who Killed 3-Year-Old In Oakland
OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) -- A manhunt continues in Oakland for the gunmen who killed a 3-year-old boy during a drive-by shooting in broad daylight that also wounded two men.
Police have issued a citywide tactical alert as mobile command truck remains on the scene Tuesday, a day after relatives say Carlos Fernandez Nava was fatally shot on International Boulevard Monday afternoon.
Police say the boy was riding in a stroller with his family when multiple shots rang out from a passing car aimed at the men walking nearby shortly after 1 p.m.
The boy died later at a local hospital and the men were treated for minor injuries.
Police Chief Anthony Batts believes the incident stems from an ongoing feud between two groups.
Mayor Jean Quan says she has asked for state and federal assistance to help police and that a vigil will be held at the scene of the shooting Tuesday night.
