Police Say CHP Officer Arrested For Burglary Had Hit Store Three Times Before
VACAVILLE, Calif. (CBS13) – New information has emerged about a CHP officer accused of stealing from a Target store.
Police in Vacaville arrested Shawn Hammonds on Monday after store employees say he tried to leave the store with a concealed XBOX Gaming System without paying for it.
After being confronted Hammonds fled the store without the electronics, but witnesses jotted down the license plate of his truck before he drove away. Officers spotted the truck and took Hammonds into custody. He was booked into Solano County jail on four counts of commercial burglary and was later released on $30,000 bail.
Investigators believe this is the fourth time Hammonds has stolen from the store and sold the items on the Internet. The estimated value of the stolen items is $1,359.53.
Hammonds had been assigned to work at the State Capitol for the last five years, say authorities.
