Car Chase Ends Violently In Citrus Heights
CITRUS HEIGHTS (CBS13) – Authorities are saying that they were forced to open fire on a woman after she rammed her car into two Citrus Heights patrol vehicles late Sunday morning.
According to Sacramento County Sheriff's Sgt. Lisa Bowman, Citrus Heights Police got a LoJack report of a stolen car. They soon spotted the car and tried to pull it over, but the driver wouldn't yield. The driver -- said to be a woman in her 20's -- rammed the officers' car and sped off, leading police on a chase that hit speeds over 70 mph.
The chase ended along the 7500 block of Sunset Avenue, where the woman is said to have rammed her car into another Citrus Heights patrol vehicle. Two Citrus Heights police officers then opened fire on the woman.
Bowman says the officers immediately tried to help the woman, but she was soon pronounced dead. Her identity has not been released at this time.
Sunset Avenue, between San Juan and Minnesota Avenues, is closed as investigators continue their work. The Sacramento County Sheriff's Office will be handling the investigation.
The incident was the second officer-involved shooting of the day for Sacramento authorities. Earlier in the morning, deputies opened fire on a man carrying an assault rifle and handgun.
