Police Not Saying If 3-Year-Old Was Alone Crossing Sunrise Boulevard Before Death
CITRUS HEIGHTS (CBS13) - More than 24 hours after a 3-year-old boy's death, Citrus Heights police still aren't saying whether the little boy was crossing the busy street by himself.
Meanwhile, a memorial continued to grow for little Kameron Collins and there was heartbreak at the apartment complex where he lived.
"It is a sense of sadness and they just moved in, they just moved in there," neighbor Gretchen Dorsey said. "We got out and found it was little man, it was little Kameron, and it was very sad, very sad."
Investigators say the toddler was in the median crossing busy Sunrise Boulevard on Monday night when he was hit by a car. He was rushed to the hospital, but doctors couldn't save him.
Detectives still don't know or won't say whether Kameron was crossing the street by himself.
"It's really hard for me because I have three children," neighbor Arlene Henry said.
Parents there are holding their children a little tighter, concerned about the dangers of living so close to one of the city's busiest streets. They want a cross walk closer to their complex.
"If we could get some cross walks and stuff it would be better," Alvin Williams said. "It's affected me pretty bad because this was, this was a baby. It's very hard."
It has to be hitting Kameron's family the hardest as they try to start the new year remembering the good times they had with the little boy.
"We were just playing with little man, little man has little braids and he was just playing tag up right up by that tree," Dorsey said. "It was just very sad."
Police haven't given a timetable as to when we might know the details leading up to Kameron's death, including whether or not he was alone crossing the street, saying only that's it's all part of the ongoing investigation.
