Police: Men Stole Bottle Of Alcohol From Walmart, Attacked Security Guard
ROCKLIN (CBS13) – Two men are under arrest on charges they shoplifted some alcohol from a Rocklin Walmart, then attacked two people who tried to stop them.
Rocklin Police say that, just before 12:30 p.m. Friday, officers were called to the Walmart off on 5454 Crossings Drive for a reported strong-arm robbery. Once at the scene, officers were told that a loss prevention officer had tried to stop two men who left the store without paying for a bottle of alcohol.
The loss prevention officer confronted the two men – identified as 23-year-old Kory Dean Johnson and 20-year-old Bradley Scott Rondeau, both from Loomis – but was attacked by one of the men.
Both men then ran away, but when the officer pulled out his phone to call 911, one of the men came back, took the phone and ran.
Police say that this is when a Good Samaritan started chasing after one of the suspects to try and help the officer. But, police say that the suspect grabbed a wooden stake and started hitting the citizen with it, allowing him to get free.
Police officers eventually took the attacking suspect into custody. A California Highway Patrol helicopter was called in to help find the second suspect. He was found hiding out in the parking lot as well.
Both Rondeau and Johnson now face robbery and burglary charges. Johnson faces an additional assault with a deadly weapon charge.
