Suspects still at large after deadly shooting at Sacramento light rail station
SACRAMENTO — A coroner on Monday identified the person killed in a triple shooting at a Sacramento light rail station last week.
The person killed was 25-year-old Levell Murphy of Sacramento. Two other people were wounded and rushed to an area hospital.
The shootings happened Thursday afternoon at the light rail station at 65th and Q Streets. Two suspects remain at large, and the circumstances of the shooting remain under investigation.
A Sacramento police helicopter was flying overhead for some time Thursday, announcing two armed suspects were on the run and described them as two Black men, one in a gray hoodie and the other in a black hoodie. If seen, they should be considered armed and dangerous.
Police confirmed Friday that they believed a nearby carjacking that happened in the area of the shootings at around the same time was related.
On Thursday, CBS13 spoke with Eric Currington, who said two armed men carjacked his son while he was parked at Urijah Faber's Ultimate Fitness gym at Folsom and 65th, a block away from the light rail station. That vehicle was then left abandoned nearby on University Avenue.
Currington said his son was not injured, and Sacramento police spoke with him.
The nearby Sacramento State Police Department said it was also helping with this investigation and said there was no threat to the campus.
Nearby Phoebe A. Hearst Elementary was placed on a brief lockdown which was lifted just before 4:30 p.m. All staff and students were safe.
The University and 65th Street light rail station closed for an extended time due to the investigation. The station reopened early Friday morning.
SacRT said in a statement that they have provided surveillance video from the train and station to Sacramento police to help in the investigation.
