Police In Nevada Seize Pot From Chartered Ski Buses From California
LAS VEGAS (AP) — A Nevada police chief turned the discovery of marijuana on five chartered buses bound from California to Utah ski slopes into a teaching moment instead of an enforcement headache.
Elko Police Chief Don Zumwalt told The Associated Press on Thursday that he had officers confiscate pot and paraphernalia. He gave the 250 mostly teenagers who were on the buses a lecture about responsibility and safety before sending them on their way.
Zumwalt says some thanked him. Others scowled.
KRNV-TV in Reno first reported the late Tuesday encounter.
Zumwalt says a store clerk reported bus riders smoking pot in a travel plaza near Interstate 80. Police dogs sniffed marijuana in the baggage compartments of each bus.
