Police ID Suspect In Attack On Elderly Man

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- Police have released the name of a 45-year-old San Francisco man they say attacked and beat an elderly man at Fisherman's Wharf.

A police spokesman says Markus Husarek was being held on suspicion of aggravated assault and elder abuse for allegedly grabbing the 84-year-old man and throwing him to the ground Monday afternoon.

Witnesses told police that Husarek was practicing karate just before the alleged attack on the elderly man.

San Francisco police Sgt. Mike Andraychak says the elderly man, whose identity has not been released, was taken to a hospital for treatment of his injuries, but has since been released.

Police did not describe the nature or extent of the man's injuries.

Andraychak says Husarek was arrested shortly after the incident when he was detained by security guards.

Police did not know if Husarek had retained an attorney.
