Police: Feud Triggered Amador High School Stabbing
SUTTER CREEK, Calif. (CBS13) -- One student was hospitalized and another arrested after an Amador County school fight escalated into a stabbing, according to authorities.
The two juvenile Amador High School students, described as a senior and a sophomore, got into a heated verbal exchange between classes at a water fountain at about 10:00 a.m., and the argument quickly escalated into a fistfight, according to Sutter Creek Police Chief Brian Klier.
The two participants are known to dislike each other and don't get along well, but when the older student appeared to be losing the fight, the long-standing feud turned into a potentially deadly situation., authorities said.
"At that point, it looks like he brought out a small knife and stabbed the other student one time," Klier said.
The school doesn't deal with serious fights often, according to superintendent Richard Glock, and the stabbing may have been the first incident of its kind on campus.
The victim was wounded in the stomach by the 1-inch blade and was rushed to the UC Davis Medical Center by helicopter as a precaution, although his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.
The boy accused of the stabbing was treated for a punch to his head and was taken into custody on charges of assault with a deadly weapon, brandishing a weapon at school and fighting on school grounds," Klier said.
Due to the ages of the participants, authorities have not released their identities.
Counselors will be on hand at Amador High School on Tuesday to deal with the aftermath of the incident.
