Police: Fairfield School Custodian Duct-Taped During iPad Robbery
FAIRFIELD (CBS13) - The night janitor at a Fairfield continuation school was reportedly duct-taped to a desk as two men stole about 40 iPads from the school.
The robbery happened at Sam Yeto Continuation School at 824 Washington St. The janitor, 50, was approached Wednesday night by two men, one armed with a handgun, Fairfield police said.
The suspects ordered the custodian to lie on the ground and threatened to kill him if he did not cooperate. Then they demanded to know where the school's iPad devices were stored, police said.
The custodian told them the location of the iPads and was ordered to direct the suspects to the location. They reportedly used duct tape to bind the custodian's hands and also used the tape to secure him to a desk. They then stole the school's iPads and fled on foot.
The custodian managed to free his hands enough to call the police and was found by arriving officers shortly before 10 p.m., still partially taped to a desk.
The suspects were described as black men in their 20s, both with medium builds. Both were wearing hooded sweatshirts and gloves.
The custodian was not injured. A check of the area for the suspects was conducted without success.
Police say this is the third time in the last four months the school's iPads have been targeted for theft but the first time armed intruders accosted a school staff member.
