Police Crack Down On Dancing At Roseville Restaurant

ROSEVILLE, Calif. (CBS13) – A restaurant manager said he is planning to fight thousands of dollars in city citations over complaints of dancing and loud music at his establishment, saying that his entire business is at risk if he is forced to pay.

The Station restaurant advertises numerous events with music and dancing, but Roseville officials said the establishment is not licensed to become an after-hours nightclub.

Manager Len Travis said the police has ticketed The Station 22 times for dancing violations in recent months, totally $9,800 in fines.

"It has threatened our business," Travis said. "I know what's right and I know what's wrong. They're wrong."

City planners said they have received numerous complaints from neighbors who say their patience is wearing thin with the noise and crowds during late hours.

"One night our fire department went out there to investigate, they found that there were 550 people in a building that only allowed occupancy for 202 people," said city spokesperson Megan MacPherson.

New regulations state that in order to qualify for a loud music and dancing permit, an establishment must be at least 500 feet from residential zones. The Station is not.

Travis said he will fight its dancing violation tickets at City Hall on Thursday.
