Police: 5-Year-Old Finds Hidden Cell Phone Camera Inside Starbucks Women's Restroom

LANCASTER, Calif. (CBS Sacramento) -- A 5-year-old boy reportedly found a hidden cell phone camera inside the women's restroom at a Lancaster Starbucks.

KTLA-TV reports the child found the phone Thursday morning.

"My son used the restroom first and I used the restroom after him. I noticed he was staring at the sink a little bit perplexed. I asked him what was wrong and he said, 'Mommy, why is there a phone under there?" the boy's mother, who asked not to be identified, told KTLA.

The woman says she saw the cell phone under the sink propped up by paper towels with the camera facing the toilet.

"It's such a violation of privacy," she told KTLA. "Not only of mine, but my son."

Store employees contacted the Lancaster Sheriff's Department.

"The deputies discovered that the cell phone was running in a video-recording motion," Lt. Joseph Fender told KTLA.

Starbucks said in a statement that they are "disturbed" by the incident.

"We are disturbed by this incident and take our obligation to provide a safe environment for our customers and partners (employees) very seriously," spokesperson Jaime Riley told KTLA in a statement. "Our store partners took swift action as soon as they became aware of the incident by immediately alerting the Sheriff's Department of the situation."

It is not known how long the cell phone was under the sink for.
