Plea Delayed For Suspect In Nursing Student Death

HAYWARD, Calif. (AP) -- The plea hearing for a pregnant woman charged with murdering a Northern California nursing student has been delayed over medical reasons.

Alameda County sheriff's spokesman Sgt. J.D. Nelson says a doctor decided that Giselle Esteban was not well enough to attend court on Wednesday.

Esteban's attorney Andrea Auer told the judge during Wednesday's brief hearing that she'll request bail for the 27-year-old Esteban at the next scheduled court date on Oct. 24.

Esteban is accused of killing 26-year-old Michelle Le, whose remains were found on Sept. 17, nearly four months after she disappeared from the Hayward hospital where she worked. Authorities say the killing may have stemmed from Esteban's jealousy of her former friend.

About 200 people attended an Oakland candlelight vigil to remember Le on Tuesday.
