Pit Bulls Suspected Of Mauling Yuba City Miniature Horse
YUBA CITY (CBS13) — Two pit bulls are suspected of mauling and killing a miniature horse in Yuba City.
The horse, named Big Ed, was inside his corral at the time of the attack.
"So sweet, the best," said Big Ed's owner Jennifer Bryan. "He would pull a pony cart. We took him to birthday parties. He was just so lovable."
But videos and photos are all Bryan and her children have left of the miniature horse they found mauled and mutilated in his corral on Monday morning.
"They had completely mauled his face, his nose had almost come off," Bryan said.
Animal control officers would arrive, eventually determining the tracks left behind belonged to a dog.
Jennifer is positive it was her neighbors' two pit bulls in the home just behind theirs. She says the dogs had wandered away before.
Sutter County Animal Shelter manager Diana Barrett says the dogs have been quarantined during the investigation and the fur is being tested for equine blood.
"They've got some stiff, dark-colored material that could be mud, or possibly blood," she said.
CBS13 was there as police and an animal control officer arrived at the suspected owner's home today to search for a possible third dog involved in the attack.
A woman who claimed to be a family member spoke to us briefly.
"I'm pretty sure they need proof to say the pit bulls did it though," she said. "They've never been aggressive toward my kids."
Bryan says it's a lesson for dog owners to keep track of their animals.
"If they did, he would be here," she said.
