Picasso Ceramics On Display At Turlock Carnegie Arts Center
TURLOCK (CBS13) — Pablo Picasso's work isn't easy for an art gallery to showcase. But one gallery did, and it's in Turlock.
Picasso's Madoura collection of ceramics is at the Turlock Carnegie Arts Center. Here, visitors will have a chance to view works from one of the most well-known artists of the 20th century.
"The different forms and shapes and just the artistic composition is amazing," said Modesto resident Christina Yoshikawa.
"He was definitely interested in human expression," said the gallery's executive director Rebecca Phillips Abbott.
There are more than 50 pieces from his ceramics collection at the gallery. Abbott worked with an exhibit organizing agency to put together the traveling display.
"We are perfectly suited to be looking for small exhibitions of great artists that give us all a great opportunity to give us another perspective," said Abbott.
And Turlock is the only place where you can view this collection in California.
"It's unbelievable, and I think the city is lucky to have such an exhibit here in its borders," said Modesto resident Ed Fitzpatrick.
"The city of Turlock built a state-of-the-art center, which certainly set the stage for looking for artists of this caliber that we might present," said Abbott.
Some will find his art fun, while others might consider it complicated. But Picasso's vision has made it to Turlock, so you can decide for yourself.
The center is open Wednesday through Sunday. The collection will be on display through the end of the year. From here it will go to North Carolina in January.
