Physical Card Sales Make Valentine's Day Busy For Greeting Card Companies
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — The night before Valentine's Day brings a rush for greeting card merchants hoping to cash-in on last-minute shoppers.
In a time when many communicate electronically through social media, this is a holiday many feel is too special for a simple click-and-send.
"You send your good friends and family cards," one shopper said. "You send your other friends an email or an electronic card."
Whether it's for him, or for her, or even from the cat, all these Valentine's Day shoppers—mostly men—agree there's something about holding a card in your hand that's a must for the ones you love.
With the overall greeting card business in the United States down 5.5 percent in the last five years, this is the one occasion businesses like the Arden area Hallmark Store hold close to their heart.
But Hallmark hasn't ignored the need for speed when it comes to sending pleasant message. It has its own E-card division.
But for this occasion, that division takes a back seat to something signed, sealed and delivered.
