PETA Referencing Death Of Baby On Billboard
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) -- A new advertising campaign by an animal rights group will reference the recent microwaving death of a Sacramento baby in a billboard urging people to adopt a vegan lifestyle.
The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals has garnered attention for controversial ads in the past, but the new billboards they plan to post along Interstate 80 and other roadways have elicited a strong reaction before they have been posted.
The billboard will show a pork chop inside a microwave and another picture of a piglet with its mom, with the text, "Everybody's Somebody's Baby."
The ad appears to reference the death of 6-week-old Mirabelle Thao Lo, who was allegedly burned to death in a microwave by her mother, Ka Yang.
PETA spokesperson Lindsay Rajt said the horrific accusations provided an opportunity to draw attention to the morality of eating animal products.
"Every time we microwave a piece of meat, we're microwaving a once-living animal who is another animal's baby," Rajt said. "I think our billboards make the point that animals and humans have a lot in common."
The billboards are expected to be put up within a few days.
