Person Of Interest May Be Driving Citrus Heights Murder Victim's Car
CITRUS HEIGHTS (CBS13) — A single mother was brutally murdered inside her home, and the person of interest in the case may be driving her car, Citrus Heights Police said on Monday.
Friends Kim Chittenden, 46, can't believe she's gone.
"This is totally out of the blue. Nobody expected somebody to come in and do this to her, " said Guy Peres.
He's the godfather to Kim's 7-year-old daughter who she leaves behind.
"She's going to be devastated when this all comes out, when she realizes what's happened," she said.
Citrus Heights Police say the mother was found dead in her home in a private community near Sunrise Mall.
Neighbors say they were relieved to hear Kim's daughter wasn't home at the time of the killing. They say police had been called out before for a domestic disturbance between Kim and a recent boyfriend. Investigators aren't confirming that, instead asking everyone to be on the lookout for her van.
The 2008 dark grey Honda Odyssey was stolen after the crime. The license plate is 6FVH704. Police advise calling 911 if you see the vehicle, and not approaching it or any people inside.
Police are hoping the vehicle could lead them to a person of interest.
Meanwhile, Peres says the neighborhood is hoping for justice.
"To find the person," he said. "I'd like that guy to be punished, because she didn't deserve this, not at all."
