Perseid Meteor Shower To Peak Thursday Night
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – The Perseid meteor shower is predicted to be an epic show overnight.
NASA says this year's peak of the Perseid meteor shower could see more than double the usual rate of shooting stars.
Usually, about 80 meteors can be seen per hour. This year, anywhere from 150 to 200 meteors may shoot across the sky per hour during Thursday night into Friday morning's peak.
The peak will be between 10 p.m. and 4 a.m. PST. You may see stragglers before and after that time, too.
The Perseid meteor shower occurs every summer when the Earth passes through the tail of the comet Swift-Tuttle.
Expect pleasant overnight conditions and clear skies in the valley.
