UPDATE: Pedestrian Killed On I-5 Was Murder Suspect Being Pursued By Officers

STOCKTON (CBS13) – A pedestrian who was hit and killed after running onto Interstate 5 in Stockton this morning has been identified as a murder suspect who was being chased by officers, according to the Stockton Police Department.

The accident happened just before 8:00 a.m. on northbound Interstate 5 near the March Lane onramp.

Stockton Police have confirmed that the victim was a suspect in a murder out of Santa Rosa.

Stockton Police were called for backup by a Santa Rosa officer who was following the suspect in an unmarked police car.

The suspect died after running onto the freeway when Stockton Police tried to pull him over.

"The suspect immediately pulled over, got out of his vehicle, began to act very erratically I'm told. Even asking the officers to go ahead and shoot him," said Stockton Police Officer Pete Smith.

Police believe the suspect was trying to get hit by a car.
