2 arrested after parking enforcement vehicle shot at in Sacramento County, sheriff says
SACRAMENTO – Two men were arrested in connection to a shooting involving a Sacramento County Parking Enforcement vehicle, authorities said Monday.
The Sacramento County Sheriff's Office says, just before 11 a.m., the employee was near Wyda and Ethan Way when they reported being shot at while they were inside the parking enforcement vehicle, after writing a citation for another vehicle.
One of the vehicle's backseat windows was shot out, the sheriff's office says. The bullet barely missed the parking enforcement officer.
"For what? Over a ticket? Just move your stuff," said Jesse Ary, who lives in the apartment complex across from where the shooting happened. "Guess he was upset, rolled down the street twice and then he shot at the car."
Sheriff's spokesperson Sgt. Amar Gandhi said there was no conflict or argument between the officer and the driver before the shooting. Gandhi said the enforcement officer gave the car a parking violation ticket and then wrote up another car. She was working on paperwork in her car when it was shot at.
Sgt. Gandhi said investigators quickly located the suspect's car because of the information on the citation.
"They removed the plates and thought they were being sneaky, but it stuck out like a sore thumb here in this parking lot just a few blocks away," he said.
Investigators then detained two adult men in connection to the shooting. They later confirmed the men used a pellet rifle and a BB gun.
Sgt. Gandhi said that after hearing from the community, this street had become a priority for parking enforcement, which CBS13 confirmed to be true. Multiple cars parked in red zones illegally had tickets on them.
Ary told CBS13 that Wyda Way has its issues, but someone seemingly pulling the trigger over a parking ticket is a first.
"Nowadays, people just do crazy stuff," Ary said. "Just shooting at a parking attendant is just really stupid."
Deputies have not identified the two suspects and wanted to thank witnesses for coming forward to help locate them.
