Overturned Semi On Causeway Blocks Interstate 80 For Hours
SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) -- Traffic on Northern California's main east-west interstate came to a standstill after a semi-truck rolled over on a congested causeway just west of the state capital.
The California Highway Patrol said the crash occurred about 9 a.m. Tuesday after a Toyota Camry spun out when the driver veered to avoid slow traffic on westbound Interstate 80 on the Yolo Causeway.
A tractor-trailer driver tried to avoid the Camry but struck the concrete median, causing the rig to roll on its side. The truck blocked all westbound lanes.
At least one eastbound lane was closed temporarily, backing up traffic in both directions.
The truck, carrying furniture and tomatoes, was removed and all lanes reopened shortly before noon. The CHP says both drivers were taken to a Sacramento hospital with minor injuries.
