Overturned Big Rig On Highway 50 Loaded With 78,000 Pounds Of Powder Cement

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – A big rig loaded with 75,000 pounds of powdered cement has overturned on Highway 50 blocking a lane and off ramp, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The truck crashed just after 5:20 Tuesday morning in the westbound direction of Highway 50 at the Power Inn Road/Howe Avenue off ramp.

CHP is warning that the off ramp and one lane of Highway 50 may be blocked for several hours as crews try and determine the best way to clear the accident.

There are concerns that the truck may break apart and spill the dry cement mixture all over the roadway if they attempt to upright the big rig without off-loading the cement first.

Officials may wait for a specialized truck to vacuum the powdered cement out of the big rig before trying to tow it away.

The driver of the big rig suffered minor injuries.
